This week we went to this wine cellar : La ligne Rouge (the red line). ๐Ÿท
We had the opportunity to discuss with the manager, who agreed to do a little interview, just for you! So enjoy, read, comment and drink! ๐Ÿฅ‚

As usual, for those who are used to reading our articles (we love you โค๏ธ), we started with a few questions about the past of the cellar-man and his career …
Question 1 :

What is your background and why have you chosen the wineโ€™s sector ?

I arrived in Bordeaux in 1994 for my studies, already knowing that I wanted to work in the wine sector, I was 16 years old. I studied in an agricultural high school and then I did a BTS viticulture-oenology. After my graduation, I did almost 12 years of domain management in Bordeaux ๐Ÿ“. Then in 2012 we have opened the cellar / wine barLa ligne rouge”.๐Ÿท๐Ÿนย So I had a career in production that later went to a more commercial side.

Question 2 (Because we need to know and we are super curious ๐Ÿ˜‡) :

What is the specialty of yourย cellar ? ๐Ÿค”

* We have just 2 Bordeaux wines (2 out of 300), 50% of the wines here are foreign wines and the rest are outside the Bordeaux region. โœˆ๏ธ

*We are opened 7 days a week since 2012. ๐Ÿ’ช

*We have a selection of wine by the glass, plus a mystery wine on menu card that we invite you to discover.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿธ

And noooow question 3 :

How do you select wines ?

My production background has brought me a large network. We are open to all proposals as long as the quality of the wine is here. The wines that smell the stable at 3 km is not for us. We try to bring to our customers some unknown grapes varieties or different methods of vinification and especially unnamed labels. We try to highlight the people and winemakers we met and their work that we consider excellent.๐Ÿ‡

I do not care about the bottle, what I’m interested in is opening it and seeing what’s inside.๐Ÿพ

Since we opened we have around 1200 references.๐Ÿ˜ฎ

A very important one, the question 4 :

How would you describe the atmosphere of the cellar and its main value ?ย 

It is quite convivial, we try to bring pedagogy and especially a lot of exchanges. ๐ŸŽ‰

We bring a strong technical and playful side, that’s why we have half of our customers who are people from the wine sector.๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ฉ

Also, you have the possibility to leave with the opening bottle of wines. We make a single corkage charge to 9 โ‚ฌ.ย

Question 5 (Our favorite and the one we love to debate):

What do you think will be the trends of tomorrow ?

It is already well marked, we will drink less but more intelligently. I think that the trends will open up to what is being done elsewhere in other countries. Bordeaux will continue to make its own mark through its big names, there will surely be less and less domain in Bordeaux, some will be bigger and bigger, others will take niche markets, others will produce largest volumes. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

I think there will always be food and drink for everyone. (๐Ÿ™Œ) There will surely be breaks on types of products that we will not see anymore. Bio and biodynamics that are already well established will continue to take more market shares. Besides, there is a qualification that we do not necessarily know-well and that takes a lot of market place among the traders, it is the Vegan wines (without product of animal origin).๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‡

Question 6 is a topical issue :

What is your favorite wine for a good New Year ? ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽˆ

I will advise you the natural sparkling wines. Very nice wines that will finish their vinification in the bottle.๐Ÿ‘Œ

For example : Domaine des terres blanches – Celine & Benoit Bletย ย which is on the Loiron in the valley of the Loire. It’sย 100% chenin. ๐Ÿ˜Š

This wine do not contain sulfur, or liquor, and is vinified by gravity and not by pump in order not to brew the wine. Moreover, it is certified in biodynamic. This domain is very interesting because there is an huge amount of work at the vineyard level.๐Ÿ‘

Our impression of La Ligne Rouge :

This place is peaceful and very pleasant, when we arrived we were surprised by the simplicity and the kindness of the manager. ๐Ÿ˜Š He had a lot of references from all around the country and a really good knowledge in production. ๐Ÿ‘ We really love the particularity of this wine cellar that is to make discover unknown grapes in playful way (like the mystery wine). โค๏ธ If you wants to discover new things and have interesting exchanges with nice people who love the wine in all its form, go right now to La Ligne Rouge.๐Ÿ˜‰
